Two South-West Based Mobility Companies Join Forces
Hickleys have purchased HMS Mobility Solutions. This was a company who were well established within the prescriptive powered and active wheelchair market and also suppliers of adult and child trikes. The prescriptive market was an area that Hickleys were planning to expand into, and this acquisition enabled them to make an instant impact in this market.
Hickleys have also had a whole new shop front installed along with electronic doors to make it easier for clients. They have expanded their team, with the addition of an engineer to continue their excellent after sales service, and also have an accreditation from 'Which Trusted Traders'.
Clark & Partners
In November 2019, Clark & Partners Ltd transferred to new owners and Directors who have worked within the business for many years. Restructuring of the business had commenced earlier that same year to adjust company focus and emphasis to core mobility customers. This ongoing process of change is enabling us to continue providing the service our customers are expectant of but also to develop the business still further.
Our retail stores, of which there are 6 based in Yorkshire & Derbyshire, supply customers with a wide range of mobility equipment whilst our external sales team continue to visit customers in their own homes, and residential / care settings. In addition we have product experts who work with the leading manufacturers for powered and manual wheelchairs. Quite uniquely for most mobility companies we also supply and fit a wide range of vehicle adaptations. These support drivers and passengers of standard motor vehicles to continue to drive and also enable easier access for their mobility equipment whilst using their vehicle.
Our customer offering is further developing home solutions as being a key part of our business helping customers to retain independence by addressing their at home access requirements which include lifts, stairlifts, ramps, level showering and wash dry toilets. As a result our building and installations team continues to grow and diversify and to ensure we are keeping up with demand and despite the pandemic during 2020 we welcomed 2 new members of staff to support this.
In October 2020 we engaged with a company to re design and re model the Clark & Partners website. This work is nearly complete with the site due to 'go live' by mid to late May 2021. The new website will provide a more modern updated online store, help us develop our home solutions by being a source of information about the services we offer for customers to see online and will also for the first time include our vehicle adaptations as part of our all round mobility solutions offering.
May 2021 was a true milestone in our refocusing as we move our head office which includes warehouse, mobility workshop for repairs & servicing, administration offices, car adaptations and on site shop. This was a significant undertaking but our amazing staff as usual stepped up to the plate and everything went smoothly. As we write this piece we are enjoying our first week in newly refurbished offices and looking forward (with the rest of the country) to the lifting of restrictions and a return we hope to more usual ways of working and business.

Power List 2019: Multi-site Retailers
Tara Butterworth plays a major role in running one of the most expansive and dominant mobility retail operations in the country. As operations manager, she is now in charge of 16 branches in North West England and ensuring each one runs smoothly.
Millercare is a household name in mobility and in the last year it has gone from strength to strength, with each store playing its part in advancing the brand. When Tara joined the team, Millercare had just five stores and now she uses her extensive experience and detailed knowledge of the sector to help guide branch managers through the various challenges retailers are facing currently.
Some of the initiatives Millercare’s stores have been involved with recently include working in conjunction with local Shopmobility services and partnering with Tesco to promote Motability. Tara has helped ensure that Motability is a key revenue stream for Millercare and in 2018 the business was highly commended in the scheme’s awards.
It is no easy task being so successful in the area Millercare operates, with some sizeable competitors on its doorstep. Nevertheless, Tara’s recent efforts have not gone unnoticed higher up the chain, with suppliers praising her ‘excellent work, enthusiasm and eye for quality products’.
